Kambah ACT 2902
Katrina feels blessed to have trained with some of the shining lights of the yoga world. She completed her original teacher training in Sydney at Nature Care College with a faculty that included Eve Grybowski, Sal Flynn, Mark Breadner, Sinder Kaur and many other inspiring teachers. A game-changing element in the course was using Donna Farhi's seminal book Body, Mind Spirit as the core text.
The teachings inspired Katrina to undertake advanced studies with Donna in New Zealand and set her on the path of exploring functional movement. Donna also introduced her to the world of Body-Mind Centreing and Somatics, a therapeutic movement modality that combines the science of neuroplasticity with philosophy and elements of yoga. Thomas Hanna developed Somatics from his studies in Feldenkrais, both practices that yoke mind and body and use awareness to fine tune consciousness of sensation.
Katrina works as a computer consultant as her day job so understands only too well the impact of loaded posture and long hours at a computer has on the body, mind and breath. Yoga and somatics is her sanctuary, her go to, and a source of inspiration and insight every day.
Katrina currently teaches two classes a week which are a fusion of Somatics and therapeutic yoga.
The Somatic focus class help you recognise how your body reflects how you think, feel and get locked into habitual postures and shapes. The classes use slow, measured somatic movements to help you reclaim a sense of wholeness, your sense of Self, independence for healing and freedom in movement. Students leave feeling spacious, balanced and wonderfully relaxed.
The yoga fusion class often use insights from the latest research into functional yoga and movement therapy including fascia release, core stabilisation techniques, Feldenkrais elements and somatics. Classes are small and allow each student to work at their own level and with individual attention. Katrina also performs private somatic assessments out of her Kambah, ACT, home studio.
